Research Themes and Programs
Research in the earth sciences is increasingly multi-disciplinary, and integrates activities not easily described by traditional disciplines such as hydrology, petrology, structural geology, sedimentary geology, or thermal geophysics. Modern earth science research is also increasingly systems-oriented. Hence, we present the current research activities of our Department in terms of a selected number of research themes. The emphasis of this research is on quantitatively understanding earth science systems and the geophysical, geobiological, and geochemical processes that operate within these systems. The projects and themes listed below are not exhaustive. Details of specific research programs may be found by clicking the names of individual faculty. Note that many of the faculty participate in more than one research theme.

Earth History and Paleobiology

Surface Processes and Paleoclimate

Water-Earth Systems

Earth Resources and Exploration

Internal Processes and Dynamics of the Earth
