The EAST-WEST Summer Workshop will be held August 15-17, 2007.  Teachers, fellows and staff will gather to meet other participants, learn about the EAST-WEST partnership, gain science content knowledge and develop project ideas.

     

Wednesday, August 15:  Fellows only.  Utah Museum of Natural History, Room 319, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Thursday, August 16:  Fellows and Teachers.  Tracy Aviary, Chase Mill, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Friday, August 17:  Fellows and Teachers.  Great Salt Lake State Park and Marina, 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.  We will be walking around on the shore and taking a boat ride.  Please dress to get dirty and bring hat, sunglasses, etc.  It will probably be HOT!!

All fellows and lead teachers are required to attend, other teachers are welcome but must register.  Please submit the registration form below by August 10th.  Please come prepared with school schedules, teaching schedules, calendars, lesson plans, and anything else that you may need to help you plan your WEST activities.  Please be on time as a courtesy to others!

Breakfast and lunch will be served on all three days.  We will be walking around the Aviary and on the shore of Great Salt Lake so dress appropriately.

Directions to the Utah Museum of Natural History:

The Utah Museum of Natural History is located at 1390 E. President's Circle on the University of Utah campus.

    •     If you are traveling North on I-15, continue to the I-80 East junction.
    •     From I-80 take the "1300 East" exit.
    •     Go north on 1300 East to 200 South, and turn right (East).
    •     Proceed East for one block to University Street.
    •     Turn right onto University Street, then turn left into Presidents Circle.
    •     The Museum is the first building on the south corner of Presidents Circle, on the west edge of the University of Utah campus.

Directions to the Tracy Aviary:

Tracy Aviary is located at 589 East 1300 South in the southwest corner of Liberty Park in Salt Lake City. It is accessible from the northern entrance of the park located at 900 South. Parking is available outside the main entrance of the Aviary grounds.

Directions to the Great Salt Lake State Park and Marina:

The marina is located on the south shore of Great Salt Lake, 16 miles west of Salt Lake City.
    •     From I-80 westbound take the Exit 104 (Great Salt Lake State Park - Saltair).
    •     Proceed toward Saltair and turn left (west) onto the frontage road. 
    •     Drive west on the frontage road for about 0.5 mi and enter the GSL State Park Marina parking lot.
    •     We will be meeting in the picnic pavilion located near the restrooms at the south end of the lot.

Please note that this is NOT Antelope Island!!  If you don't see Saltair, some really tall smokestacks, and lots of signs for the Red Garter Casino in Wendover, you've gone the wrong way!
