Materials 1. Lamotte “Green” water testing kits available for checkout from WEST (www.earth.utah.edu/west) or purchase online 2. Teacher background materials and instructions for each test: a. Nitrate and Phosphate Teacher Guide b. Temperature and Dissolved Oxygen Teacher Guide c. Turbidity Teacher Guide 3. Wetland Water Monitoring Worksheet 4. Notebooks for data collection.
Instructions 1. Pick a spot where water can be easily sampled without stirring up mud from the bottom.
2. Before each test, review background for the test with students and have them transfer this information into their Wetland Water Monitoring Worksheet. Review how to do the test using teacher instructions for each test.
3. Have separate groups of students conduct each test and share their findings with the rest of the students.
4. All data can be recorded in student notebooks.
Learning Outcome Students will learn how to conduct scientific water sampling, collect and analyze data back in the classroom.
