Fellow Responsibilities
2007-8 Academic Year

1. As a WEST fellow you are required to spend approximately 15 hours/week on WEST activities.  About 10 of these hours should be spent working directly in the schools.

2. Fellows are required to meet weekly with the lead teacher(s) at their assigned school. 

3. Weekly attendance at the fall semester Teaching and Learning Seminar is required of all WEST fellows.  This seminar will focus on communication skills, teaching pedagogy and logistics of WEST.

4. Weekly attendance at the spring semester Interdisciplinary Research Seminar is required of all WEST fellows.  This 2 credit hour seminar seeks to improve graduate student training by addressing key environmental issues from a multidisciplinary perspective.

5. WEST fellows are required to attend the WEST Summer Workshop, August 15-17, 2007.

6.  WEST fellows are required to attend the WEST Fall Retreat  to be held at Alta Peruvian Lodge, September 14-16, 2007.

7.  Fellows should dress appropriately when in contact with students and adhere to general public school guidelines:  no inappropriate language, cigarette smoking, alcohol or drug use. 

8.  Fellows are required to participate in all WEST evaluation activities.  Fellows will be required to evaluate classroom effectiveness on a periodic basis.  Fellows will also be asked to provide information for the two annual NSF reports in April and in July of 2008.

Note: The term of the WEST fellowship is Aug. 15, 2007  to June 15, 2008.  Although the majority of your responsibilities will occur during the academic year, occasional requests for your time may be made throughout the summer months as well.
