Wasatch Elementary Water Quality Testing
In early November WEST Fellow Emily Gaines took Wasatch Elementary sixth graders to test the quality of the water in City Creek as it runs through Memory Grove Park. Students tested pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, nitrate content, turbidity, total dissolved solids and other indicators of water quality.  Students will return to the park throughout the school year with Emily to track how these parameters change with the seasons.  The data that the Wasatch students collect will be contributed to a larger study involving WEST schools around Salt Lake City,

Students measure the velocity of water in City Creek as it flows through Memory Grove. It will be interesting to see how the flow changes throughout the year.
Sixth graders from Wasatch Elementary measure the pH of the stream water. They found that the water in the stream was slightly basic (pH=8.6) but still at healthy levels.
