The Fall Retreat is Sept. 18-20, 2009 at the Alta Peruvian Lodge at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon.
This year's agenda is jam-packed with sessions on inquiry-based teaching, environmental science, assessment, digital media, and science communication. We have a terrific lineup of speakers from the University of Utah, Utah State University, Brigham Young University and the Salt Lake City School District. Doug Fabrizio, host of KUER's RadioWest will also be joining us for a special keynote presentation.
Check-in and breakfast begins at 8:00 am on Friday. Sessions will begin at 8:30 am.
For TEACHERS and EAST Fellows, the workshop adjourns on Saturday at 5:00 pm. Substitute teacher expenses will be paid for ONE lead teacher per fellow so that teachers can attend the retreat on Friday. Please use sub code #193.
For WEST and TGLL Fellows, the workshop adjourns Sunday around 1:00 pm.
All EAST, WEST, and TGLL fellows and lead teachers are required to attend.
You'll want to bring clothing for a variety of weather conditions (shorts, boots, raingear, jacket, etc.) as we will be working outside. It could be sunny and 85° or we could have a foot of snow (which we did in 2007). You may also want to bring a swimsuit for the hot tub "training" sessions in the evening. Be aware that there will be no concessions available at the lodge so if you have special foods needs, you may want to consider bringing your own supplies.
Other items you may want to bring with you include personal and school schedules, laptop computer, camera, water bottle and a small backpack. Please carpool if at all possible!
Please register for the Fall Retreat by Thurs., Sept. 10 by clicking here. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at holly.godsey@utah.edu. See you in the mountains!
