Internal Processes and Dynamics of the Earth
Faculty and students are currently using geological, geophysical, and geochemical approaches to investigate internal Earth processes. Research areas include:
  • plate tectonics processes;
  • magmatism;
  • mechanisms of pluton emplacement;
  • metamorphic processes;
  • evolution of orogenic belts;
  • hydrothermal and geochemical evolution of oceanic crust;
  • hydrothermal systems;
  • thermal aspects of a variety of geologic processes;
  • rock magnetism;
  • mechanics of faulting and generation of earthquakes;
  • neotectonics and seismic hazards;
  • origins and characteristics of geoelectric fields.
