Instrumentation
Agilent 7500ce, quadrupole
mass-spectrometer with an octopole reaction system to
preferentially remove polyatomic interferences. Autosampler Cetac AS 520; quartz Scott
type, PTFE cyclonic and quartz double-pass spray chambers; platinum or nickel cones;
quartz shielded torch.

Analyses
ICP-MS
analyses are presently performed for aqueous samples, although organic matrices
can be considered. Solid samples are also accepted, and the charge will be
negotiated on the basis of the particular digestion procedure. Aqueous samples will
be delivered at
CWECS with the following considerations: volumes between 2 mL
and 100 mL will be accepted, the lower limit
depending on the concentration (2 mL is usually
enough for concentrations in the order or parts per million). Preferably all
samples should be
filtered (0.45 mm) and acidified (to yield 2.4% nitric acid) and heated (either
12 hrs at 60° C in closed tube; or 1 hr at 95° C in an open tube). In case the analyses
require any of these procedures and they are not performed by the client, CWECS
can do it for an extra charge. Basic QA/QC reporting includes continuing calibration
verification and blank verification. Spikes, serial dilutions, and duplicates can
also be included upon request. 15-day turn-around-time (TAT)
for samples not requiring digestion procedures. CWECS will not be
responsible for sample collection, preservation, and generation of
chain-of-custody forms, shipping and handling. CWECS will hold samples for 2
months.
