Geographic
Information System (GIS) is a tool for doing spatial analysis. There
are many similar definitions of GIS. Here are two general definitions:
"A geographic information system is a facility
for preparing, presenting, and interpreting facts that pertain to the
surface of the earth."1 "An organized
collection of computer hardware, software, geographic data, and personnel
designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze,
and display all forms of geographically referenced information."
2
How can we use GIS
for our studies of Geoantiquities?
1.
Create spatial databases of Geoantiquities.
2.
Use these databases and existing databases to do spatial analysis.
3.
Create products for further scientific studies and public information.
Examples of final
product:
1.
Maps and diagrams of Geoantiquities.
2.
Scientific databases.
