Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Geology and Geophysics is to:
 
  1. Train professional geoscientists and geological engineers of the highest caliber.
  2. Educate the University community and the public at large about the composition and structure of the Earth, the dynamic processes that shape the Earth, and the history and possible future of the Earth.
  3. Engage in scholarly research activities in order to acquire new knowledge of the Earth.
  4. Disseminate newly acquired knowledge to the scientific community via the timely publication of original research results by faculty and students.
  5. Provide professional service to the public sector by gathering and disseminating information regarding natural resources and geologic hazards, including earthquakes.
