Academics

The new academic year begins 23 August 2006. Last spring we accepted 23 new graduate students into The Graduate School and the Department.

We now have approximately 75 undergraduates and 73 graduate students.

On 5 May of 2006 we awarded 6 PhD, 1 M.E., 10 M.S and 16 B.S. degrees.

University wide honors were awarded to Julie Willis and Lindsay Zanno, both PhD Graduate Research Fellows. David Chapman, Professor of Geophysics and Dean of The Graduate School was awarded the Rosenblatt Prize for Excellence, the University’s most prestigious award presented to a faculty member who displays excellence in teaching, research and administrative efforts.

During the summer months some students took their capstone class, Field Geology; other students and faculty did what any earth scientist does when not teaching or writing, they went into the field. They spread from California to Alaska over to Mongolia, around to South Africa and back to the fossil fields of Utah.
